The ALTANA Art Collection combines diverse positions adopted by contemporary artists on the topic of “Nature and Creation”. Some 600 works by approx. 80 artists, including Georg Baselitz, Anna Gaskell, Roni Horn, Alex Katz, Anselm Kiefer, Marie-Jo Lafontaine and Kiki Smith, offer deep insights into the impressive spectrum that “nature” encompasses as a subject in the media of painting, drawing, photography, installation, video and sculpture. The selection of motifs ranges from landscapes to excursions into the world of plants, from depictions of human beings and animals through to views into the expanse of the universe. In this context, different concepts of nature are juxtaposed with each other: some of them are poetic, others determined by the media or even existential questions. Interest in ecological aspects intersects with questions of aesthetics.

An extensive selection from these holdings is sent on tour in order to provide a larger audience access to the collection.
